[ plot summary ]

Kenshin TV LD 2 jacket

Unable to dissuade Sagara Sanosuke from wanting to fight the night before when the fight was interupted by Ayame and Suzume, Kenshin and Sano head off to fight on their own where no one else will get involved or be hurt in the process. Will it be a fair fight with Hiruma Gohei sneaking around in the bushes? And just why does Sanosuke have such a major grudge against the Ishinshishi? What happened in Sano's past that makes him want to fight Kenshin so much, and can he be dissuaded from his current course?

[ capsule review ]

He even does laundry!

This is the second of two parts introducing Sano's character in the anime series. The main weakness here was the voice acting which wasn't as strong as the previous episodes. Both Kaoru and Gohei sound either a bit ho-hum or just plain overdone. While there is a fair amount of fighting happening in this episode, there is also a fair amount of background history which helps build and advance the overall story line for the anime. We get still yet more background history of the fighting factions involved during the Bakumatsu fighting, and the alliances that were made and broken during this time. Beyond the expansion on this background information, there is little else in the way of story in the "present" sense. However, the overall addition to the history behind the characters more than makes up for the heavy concentration on the fighting between Kenshin and Sanosuke.
