Isamu Dyson's character is really annoying. It's too bad, since the rest of the script writing in this series is top-notch, as are the directing and animation. The story keeps you guessing -- what's Myung hiding from? Why won't she sing anymore? What could have happened between Myung, Isamu and Guld to make Guld and Isamu such bitter rivals? Why is Guld taking drugs? And what is Marje doing with Sharon Apple behind Myung's back? Macross Plus deftly presents these questions, and unravels the plot in a manner that's suspenseful and not overworked. The show demands a little more intelligence on the part of the viewer compared to most shows, as most scenes present clues to these questions, not unlike a well-written murder mystery. The animation direction is likewise extremely well done -- one scene that really sticks out in my mind is when Myung is in the control room for the concert, and a holographic projection of Sharon Apple looms almost malevolently in the background. The fight between Isamu and Guld in the mock city proving area was, like Isamu's character, a bit on the annoying side. Would two professional test pilots ever put themselves in that position? Of course not! On the other hand, would mecha fly? Well... - AN
High action continues in episode two of this series. The animation continues to be excellent as is the music. Tensions between Guld and Isamu continues to rise as they fight for both Myung and the project. The story here continues to be very interesting and complex, although the feel really is one of a soap opera. You have the proverbial love triangle although that may not be in contention much longer, plus the battle over the fighter project between Isamu and Guld, and on top of that you have the attempted kidnapping of Sharon Apple, the virtual idol. The acting continues to be very good and the action keeps you on the edge of your seat. I have to admit, I still find hotshot pilots with no self control really rather tiresome but... I suppose it keeps the story going here. More interesting though is the question of who set the fire at the concert hall and why, not to mention all the scattered references to the three-somes childhood past. What exactly happened between the three of them has yet to be expanded upon although they did introduce yet another element from the past. Predictably, the episode ends just as the fight between Guld and Isamu seems to end. Who won and just what happened etc. will have to wait until the next episode. Still the testing of the two fighters and the fight between the two pilots made things rather interesting. Shall see. - JYN
