[ plot summary ]

vhs jacket

It's typhoon season and Tokyo's hunkering down to sit through this one as best it can. In the meantime however, Miyuki and Natsumi have other problems on their hands. A cat was found at the local school by a group of young kids and she doesn't seem to be doing very well. Will they be able to get her to the animal hospital or will the notorious Lancia that shows up during typhoons have other plans for the pair?

[ capsule review ]

The car featured in this episode, the Lancia Delta, is well-known in pro-rally circles. And once again, Fujishima & Co. don't disappoint with the detail they put into it. (Left-hand drive, no less!) Vehicle dynamics are well portrayed; the backgrounds well drawn. We also get a few more hints about a possible romantic angle between Miyuki and Ken. Aside from that, the plot's pretty basic -- souped-up dirt bike vs. souped-up car. The side plots are cute, with the inclusion of the little children and cat -- I had a pretty good chuckle when Ken picked up the ailing feline; even more so with the "conversation" with Miyuki right after she snatches the cat from him. There are a couple of things that are covered in the manga series that isn't really touched upon in this short OAV series -- did we mention the fact that Natsumi has near super-human strength, and an appetite to match? Overall, it's pretty lightweight entertainment, good for those days when you don't want to "strain your brain." (Don't forget to watch this episode right to the end, there's still a scene after the credits have rolled.) - AN

This is another... well... *cute* episode to watch. Especially when Nakajima makes sure Miyuki is safe from the Lancia which tears through the school zone where they run into the school kids and one very unhappy cat. The story is pretty simple with lots of high speed racing by car and by bike. The bad-guy in this still isn't what you'd call evil or anything, just... not a very nice person; or maybe just too reckless, but certain not *bad* or *evil*. Once again we get to see Natsumi's fabled strength in action, both when she and Miyuki are helping at the scene of an accident, and when they help clean up thereafter. (How many watermelons is she carrying?!) Still, you have to love how things are and aren't looking between Miyuki and Nakajima. - JYN
