[ plot summary ]

As surprising as it may sound, Yoriko graduated top of her class at the academy. Equally surprised was her roommate, Sagamiouno(sp?) Chie, who graduated second only to Yoriko. Since then, Chie has held a grudge against her because her debut into high-class society was forestalled by this defeat. To top it all off, Chie knows Yoriko graduated top of their class because of nothing more than pure dumb luck. To show her superiority, Chie challenges Yoriko to a duel (traffic-violation style) to prove who is the better officer. However, when Chie insults Miyuki and Natsumi, Yoriko finds she has some very determined partners...whether she wants it or not.

[ capsule review ]

Chie should be pretty familiar with fans of Fujishima not only because she fits the profile of other Fujishima-type "villains", but also because she looks, acts, and thinks almost exactly like someone named Mishima Sayoko. "Keichi" made a cameo in the first episode and several episodes from now there is a dead-ringer for Belldandy. I can accept that the character designs for both series would be similar, but Chie/Sayoko is a bit much to swallow... Another complete mystery to me is where Miyuki finds the money to buy all those high-tech gadgets. Her salary can't possibly be that high can it? Nit-picker aspects aside, this episode is an interesting character builder for Yoriko. Up till now she's been depicted as nothing more than the local gossip. Its nice to know that there's more to her than that, even if its just that she has a soft spot for the routine, almost scout-like duties of a police officer. It gives her that "girl-next-door" charm that the other female characters can't quite seem to match. (Note: I've been watching too much of this series if I wrote something like that...) Besides, Yoriko's history at the academy and Chie's careless insults (and the results thereof) make this episode a must see. - DV
