Rail of the Star

A Parent's Guide to Anime
Rated: PG

Parental Guidance Advised

Reviewed by Warren Daske:

The best way for me to describe the new anime film Rail Of The Star, without boring you to death, is that it creates a new genre of anime (which is a welcome change, since nearly all anime films are action-related) which is a Japanimation political war documentary drama. The story revolves around the journey of hundreds of japanese citizens who fled from their homes during World War 2 to escape over the 38th parallel. The main story is about Chicho, her younger sister, Micho, her caretaker, Ohana, and her parents, who are living in Shinjuku during the time of the second world war. We then follow the lives of Chicho and her family as they are hit with tradgety after tradgety, finally leading to the time when Russain solders take over Japan, and the families are forced to cross over the 38th parallel to safety.

Parent's Guide Rating:

yellow (parental guidance advised)

warning: Violence : Hardly any, except for a brief scene near the beginning when a young boy is being bullied.

Other : This film can get extremely INTENSE near the end, several main charecters die, and anyone under nine, or who doesn't know much about the World War's, are going to get extremely confused.
