Vampire Princess Miyu Reviewed by Darwin O'Conner: Vampire Princess Miyu is a dark fantasy consisting four episodes: 1) Unearthly Kyoto, 2) A Banquet of Marionettes, 3) Fragile Armor, 4) Frozen Time. It's about a spiritualist named Himiko who encounters the mysterious vampire-girl Miyu and her companion Larva. Several people die in the series by a variety of means, but not particularly graphically. It is all done very tastefully and never seems gratuitous. The series very dark and some of the monsters might give little ones (and not so little ones) nightmares. Reviewed by Julia Pfaffenberger: This series is very well done. There little action--most of the fighting is done through spiritual rather than physical means. What makes Miyu so original is the dark, mysterious mood. You can see in the above picture the darkness and strange beauty of the art that makes Vampire Princess Miyu stand out. Many find this series hard to follow, but everyone picks up on the focus on emotion and dark imagery. Children might find it frightening, but it is more likely that they would simply not be able to understand it.
