[ rated pg ] Project A-Ko

A Parent's Guide to Anime
Rated: PG
Parental Guidance Advised

Reviewed by John M. Brown, P. Eng.:

Project A-KO 1

What kind of daughter would the marriage of Superman and Wonder Woman produce? A-Ko is certainly a good possibility. Here we have two friends since childhood (A-Ko Magami and C-Ko Kotobuki) attending a new high school where a brilliant student (B-Ko Daitokuji) takes an obsessive interest in becoming C-Ko's one and only friend. Some of the excellent running gags include C-Ko's complete inability to prepare a palatable meal, Spy-D's inability to ever avoid high-speed collisions from the ever tardy-to-school A-Ko and the ongoing, city destroying battles between A-Ko and B-Ko as they compete for C-Ko's affection. This is a very funny, fast-paced, action-packed adventure. Any kid would love it.

[ 36kb ]

Note to parents: There is a brief view of A-Ko's breasts as she is hastily dressing for the first day of school. There is also a brief view of B-Ko's breasts as she lounges in a pool and a long-distance view of her from the rear as she exits the pool. There are many panty shots, including a surprised pilot's-eye view as A-Ko accidentally straddles the canopy of a flying jet. It may be completely immaterial to young kids, and most adults for that matter, that the alien race involved in this story are all female even though they look like men. The violence is no worse then the Wiley Coyote/Roadrunner cartoons with lots of explosions, collisions, etc., but no one gets really hurt except for bruises and bandages.

Project A-Ko 2: Plot of the Daitokuji Financial Group

As the girls plan for summer vacation, B-Ko's father plots a really hostile takeover of the alien spacecraft that crash-landed in the first episode for its advanced technological secrets. The running gags that we all know and love continue.

Note to parents: Brief nudity, same cartoon violence as before.

Project A-Ko 3: Cinderella Rhapsody

A-Ko has boys on the mind as she prepares for the gala party of the year. Even B-Ko takes time out from her relentless pursuit of C-Ko to compete for A-Ko's new dream date, K.

Note to parents: Brief nudity, same cartoon violence as before.

Project A-Ko 4: Final

[ 6kb ]

As this particular story line ends, there are strange and mysterious happens as Miss Ayumi (the girls' teacher) seeks a husband. This episode gives a very touching and poignant conclusion to the series.

Note to parents: Brief nudity, same cartoon violence as before.

Project A-Ko: Versus Battle 1: Gray Side and Versus Battle 2: Blue Side

In this standalone two part story, A-Ko and B-Ko are bounty-hunting partners who get roped into helping to rescue C-Ko from the evil clutches of Gail who plans to (of course) destroy the universe as we know it.

Note to parents: A-Ko spends a good part of the first episode in panties and a bare-midriff camisole. There is also a brief reclining nude of A-Ko as she ponders what the Space Patrol may demand of her for their assistance.
