What's New at the Café

Do you know of a site that's about to go down? Does it have information that should be preserved on the web? Let us know, and we'll save what we can!

You can also help us out by keeping your eyes open for any anime-related events or articles. Clubs and convention-goers -- don't forget our events calendar page! If your organisation has something up and coming, let us know!

A new review is now up for Earthian OAV 1 along with associated encyclopaedia, Parent's Guide and trivia entries. We're also toying with the idea of putting up a manga review section for various titles, but haven't hammered out the details as yet. If you want to give suggestions or share ideas, now's the time to let us know! Otherwise, there is also a new editorial article up.

AAARRRGGGHHH!!!! System crash on the 11th has led to the complete loss of my in-box, so anyone who has sent in e-mail, contest entries etc. between Sept. 5-11, I'm sorry but your questions and mails have all been lost to the electronic void. Worse however, is that I was away from the computer for the weekend, so any mail between the 9-11 most likely wasn't even read before it got zapped. Those of you who know you sent messages and who read this section, please re-send.

Sharp-eyed folks may have noticed that the Cafe counter was acting strange on Sept 5-6. It seems that the Cafe was being moved to a new server, and while the hit counts have all been rolled back, at least it's relatively there again. Also, because of the move, it seems that the Cafe has since grown to about 33 Mb. Because of this new growth, I'd been locked out from uploading updates due to space limits. That problem has now been taken care of, but some people may have noticed the demise of the Contest page over the past 12 hours due to accidentally wiping out the page. It's now back up and running however. Needless to say, it's been a bad week for the system side of things. Mrff.

On a brighter note however, we now have a review up for Fake OAV up on the Cafe. Yay! Apologies to those who have been waiting so long for the Cowboy Bebop review, it's getting there. I just have to flesh it out a bit more.

Updates, updates and more updates. We have reviews up for Card Captor Sakura Ep. 4-9 along with a review of the Nelvana dub for the "1st" and "2nd" episodes which are really the original series' 8th and 9th episodes. It's been a saccharine week. Otherwise, several updates and new reviews have been added to the Parent's Guide to Anime. We've also updated the Cafe contest, as well as the calendar of events. Pictures are also up for Kindaichi Bourei Gakko File 1, Conan #174, Jubei-chan ep. 1, and Sakura eps. 1-8. Hopefully more snappies will get done so you can see what some of the other Japanese only releases look like.

Just a reminder for the Canucks out there, the premiers for Vision of Escaflowne and Gundam Wing are on Sept. 4 on YTV at 8:30 and 10:00 MT respectively. Also for those people who get the International Channel, Irresponsible Captain Tylor will start airing at 2:00 AM ET as of Sept. 7. Check local listings for times in your area.

Lastly, due to slow turnaround for e-mail responses, I'm sure I've alienated a number of people out there. To try and rectify this situation, I've decided to pull all e-mail primarily onto my own laptop rather than onto the more stable desktop system. Unfortunately my laptop is not the most stable of systems meaning that it crashes. A lot. If you hear a bloodcurdling scream....

A couple of updates to the Parent's Guide to Anime have now been posted.

For those of you who have Fox Kids, the premier for Vision of Escaflowne was seen on Fox Kids Sat. Aug 19. Those of us who caught it were treated to a very fast paced episode which was primarily the second episode of the original work with much of the first episode seen during the opening credits as well as a recap in a flashback scene. The music itself was... errr well, it was. More will be posted later for Escaflowne after I dig out the original LDs as well as rewatch the Fox version (or maybe YTV's).

For Canadians who do not have Fox Kids or who missed the premier, YTV will be showing it on Sept. 4 at 7:30 PM EDT, while the premier for Gundam Wing will follow on the same day at 9:00 PM again on YTV. Whether the same episode as seen in the US will also be aired by YTV is completely unknown.

Otherwise, the premier for Canadians for Card Captors (Card Captor Sakura) is on Aug. 23 at 7:30PM MDT. Please check local listings for times in your area.

Lastly, shoujo manga Yami no Matsue by Matsushita Yoko is slated for an October start on Wowow in Japan. Which raises the question for the Cafe readers: How interested are you to hear about/read reviews on anime which is currently commercially available only in original Japanese form? If you have an opinion either way, feel free to send us an e-mail.
